Delegation from Jordan visits greenhouse horticulture
March 20 a Jordanian trade mission of agricultural entrepreneurs and trade organisation visited the facilities of WUR, Business Unit Greenhouse Horticulture in Bleiswijk.
During their visit the delegation got a short introduction to the Dutch horticulture, the research approach of the business unit and they were informed on the options to improve post harvest facilites. The visit was finalized with a tour of the facilities to show modern greenhouse facilities and demonstrate ongoing research.
This trade delegation ran in parallel to the official visit of His Majesty King Adullah II to Wageningen Campus. Both visits showed the vivid interest of Jordan to improve it’s agriculture and tackle environmental and social issues. Water scarcity is one of the main limiting factors for a further development of the Jordanian agriculture. Options of improved irrigation and the advantages of greenhouse cultivation were extensively discussed. The visit underpinned the importance of the ongoing project of WUR in Jordan, which focusses on creating employment for Jordanians and Syrian refugees by improving greenhouse horticulture.
