EURO Working Group on Sustainable Supply Chains has decided to name their biannual thesis award after Jacqueline Bloemhof.

Jacqueline Bloemhof was Chair of the Operations Research and Logistics group from 2016 to September 2019. After a PhD in Wageningen on the interface of Operations Research and Environmental Sciences, Jacqueline worked at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, where she made significant contributions to the field of reverse logistics and closed-loop supply chains. In 2009, she moved back to Wageningen, as an Associate Professor. Here, she became a full professor in 2014, and Chair of the Operations Research and Logistics group in 2016. Her research continued in the direction of Sustainable Supply Chain Management and developed further towards food and other bio-based supply chains. On the 5th of June 2020, Jacqueline passed away.

Jacqueline was one of the founding members of the EURO working group, and one of the most enthusiastic and energetic coordinators in the first few years of the existence of the group. Throughout her academic career, Jacqueline very much emphasized the interface between sustainability and operations research.

The first Jacqueline Bloemhof PhD Thesis Award is won by Christian Thies for his thesis on ‘Sustainability assessment of products with global supply chains’, completed at the Technical University in Braunschweig, Germany.
