A giant mass of pumice is currently floating in the Pacific Ocean, on its way to the Great Barrier Reef. The mass of about 150 square kilometres has erupted from an undersea vulcano near the island of Tonga. The raft has likely been colonized by a myriad of organisms, thought to potentially be able to replenish the Great Barrier Reef. Dr. Lisa Becking was interviewed by NOS about this interesting phenomenon.
