It is with sadness that we have learned of the death of paleontologist and conservationist Dr Richard Leaky.

Professor Leakey was a leading conservationist. His efforts had a global impact, but especially in his native Kenya. In 2003 he received an honorary doctorate from Wageningen University for his achievements in the scientific groundworks of conservation. The university expresses its condolences to those who loved him and gratitude for what he accomplished.

The honorary doctorate titles are intended for outstanding researchers with an international reputation in one or more areas of science in which WUR is active. The impact of their research on society should also underscore the role and position WUR occupies as a scientific institution within society.
