I am Thirza Andriessen, 26 years old, living in Utrecht and I got one of the two PhD scholarships offered by the WASS open round this year. For the next five years I will be dedicated to understand the dignity of food aid receivers in Europe.

Dr. Hilje van der Horst (CHL) and Dr. Oona Morrow (RSO) will supervise me and Prof. Dr. Ir. Han Wiskerke (RSO) is the promotor of this project.

A little bit of my educational background: I got my bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht University and last year I graduated from the master ‘Health and Society’ here at Wageningen University. For my bachelor thesis I conducted research about anti-racism activism in St. Louis (USA) and my master thesis was about dignity of the food aid receivers of a social grocery store in Belgium, called ‘Filet Divers’.

I am excited to start here and hope to get to know you all during the upcoming weeks while getting coffee or tea, having lunch together or at seminars. Currently my desk is at room 2061, feel free to stop by.

Best wishes,

Thirza Andriessen
