A few months ago Wageningen UR Library began a development track. As from 1 January, library employees will officially be working within a new organisational structure. The library user, however, will notice little of the change. But, an improved service is one of the goals. A new department is the Digital Production Centre, formed by three sections:

  • The Wageningen UR Publication Repository
  • Wageningen UR Library Catalogue
  • Documentation

The department head is Jacquelijn Ringersma, who has been in her new position since 15 November. Jacquelijn comes from outside the library organisation. Before coming to Wageningen, she was the Head of Equipment & Information Management at the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen for five years. There she was responsible for publishing research material and developing and managing the digital data archive. In her new position, the resident of Elst sees a lot of overlap with her previous work. There are challenges in the larger organisation and the diversity of the work, she finds. Building a new department also appeals to her.

Jacquelijn studied at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences and worked at the department of Tropical Land Development in Wageningen for 10 years. Even though she’s been away for a while, Wageningen is still familiar to her. “In the few weeks that I've been here, I really feel as if I've come home", she explains, "I've already met a few researchers that I know from before."

One of her priorities is developing a uniform way of entering and saving data. “We currently have different data bases and entry systems in the three sections. We have to have a more efficient entry system and a better defined storage. There’s a lot to do.”
