Martijn van Duineveld in Het Parool
In Het Parool a new strategy from the municipality of Amsterdam to attract the right tourists to Amsterdam was discussed. Urban geographer Martijn Duineveld was interviewed to give is opinion on this strategy.
The campaign uses algorithms to target especially young tourists who want to come to Amsterdam, with the hope of banning a certain kind of tourist. Not a smart policy, says Martijn Duineveld, urban geographer at Wageningen University. The tourists will return in the coming years after the crisis, according to his analysis, and with it overtourism and nuisance will also return.
