Model Policy is coming!

The WMG (Wageningen Modelling Group) is working on a first version of a Model Policy at WUR. The background of having a Model Policy is more or less similar to having a Data Policy. We should for instance make our Models FAIR, but having FAIR models is not enough. We should also make the quality known, especially for those models that are used for society and have potential impact on our scientific integrity, our WUR image. To inform you about this policy you can find the general rules on model management below.

If you want to be informed in more detail, you can contact Jene van der Heide (jene.vanderheide@wur.nl), chair of the Wageningen Modelling Group.

General rules:

  • Every model should be made FAIR as far as possible.
  • Every model should have an owner, and the owner’s responsibilities should be defined.
  • Models should be classified according to the impact-based classification system similar to the classification system of data. The models classified as high impact have a higher priority to comply with this policy than those classified as low impact (Table1).
  • Every model of impact class Some, Serious and Disruptive should be documented and registered in the Wageningen Model Gallery.
  • The quality of the model should be known and frequently assessed according to the impact class (Table1). Safe storage and version control should be in place according to the impact class (Table1).
  • Models underlying (a) publication(s) should be preserved for at least 10 years.

Knowledge Base Programmes reports 2023

Every year we report to the Ministry of LNV the achievements, progress and encountered problems of our KB-programmes. For 2023 the reports are submitted. If you would like to have a look into the achievements of KB-38 Data Driven & High Tech and KB-33 Wageningen Modelling Group, you can click on the links below. These documents contain a nice overview of what’s happening within these KB programmes.
