About a year ago, we, Miia Häkkinen, Haoyu Yang, Matthias Krins, and Merel Witteman from Wageningen University & Research started the creation of a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) about Urban Rewilding.

Our urban rewilding team, was one of the groups. After the course, our design was rated highest by the judges and therefore we won the challenge. After that, we, as winning team, received the opportunity to develop the MOOC in cooperation with the open and online team of the WUR. And that is how we were suddenly writing scripts, recording videos, and creating podcasts. During this process, time management was crucial, because the MOOC was going live last April. We learned a lot about creating a coherent course, designing diverse course elements, and thinking out of the box. For the course, we tried to include diverse learning methods, such as podcasts, and creative assessments, such as designing your own rewilding project.

During the first run, 308 learners enrolled for the course. It was amazing to read the positive feedback from learners. One learner remarked: “Thank you to all the contributors for introducing a really complex subject by showing that even small steps can help build a better future for our children and grandchildren. Let's leave them a greener, cleaner environment.” We hope that we can reach many more motivated learners in the following years to start this green revolution step by step. But for now, we are making some small changes for the course, so the course can rerun next October!
