Hi, everyone!

My name is Kristina Thompson, and, as of mid-February, I am a new assistant professor at HSO. In my research, I take a quantitative approach to examining health. More specifically, I am interested in the interplay between economic forces and health outcomes. For instance, how do economic resources in childhood, or sudden losses of financial security in adulthood, impact later-life health outcomes?

In terms of my background, I am American, and studied history and political science at Tufts University, in Massachusetts. I also have an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, in the U.K. After working as an editor for several years in London, I decided it was time for a big change. I moved to the Netherlands to study Health and Society at WUR, and really enjoyed life in the department, the university, and the Netherlands more generally. I felt so at home that I decided to stay in the Netherlands for a Ph.D., in the Health Sciences department at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. I defended earlier this month, and am now so excited to be back at HSO!

On a more personal note, I live in Amsterdam with my partner. I spend a lot of my free time doing yoga, surfing, and attempting to learn Dutch (some of these hobbies I enjoy more than others).

I look forward to working with you all!
