On Wednesday 13 January, Marion de Vries, Windi Al Zahra and Bram Wouters from Wageningen University & Research will speak at an online seminar on the sustainable development of the Indonesian dairy sector. The seminar takes place at the end of the project Sustainable Dairy Production in Indonesia ("SIDPI"; 2016-2020), which aimed to increase productivity and incomes in small-scale dairy farming in West Java in a sustainable way. Better feed and manure management improved the productivity and health of dairy cattle, while at the same time reducing emissions and making more efficient use of resources.
The theme of the seminar is “Building Blocks for Sustainable Development of the Indonesian Dairy Sector”. The event focuses on national and provincial governments in Indonesia, knowledge institutes, large private companies and NGOs. IPB Agricultural University hosts the seminar.
In addition to contributions from WUR, Gemma Verrijdt will also speak at the seminar. Gemma is a policy officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
The SIDPI project has been completed, but will be followed up by new WUR projects around the theme of circular agriculture and climate-friendly dairy farming. An example is the Closing Regional Nutrient Cycles in Indonesia (NutReCycle) project, which explores options for using animal manure in horticulture in Java.
