Open Access developments

Open Access funds will be phased out in 2014. The Library tries to find new ways to compensate this.

In consultation with the Wageningen Graduate Schools, the Library has decided to phase out the Open Access funds. For 2014, the Library still has a fund for Open Access publications in journals from the publisher BioMed Central (BMC), but, unfortunately, there are no more financial resources for other publishers. For publications in the BMC journals, Wageningen authors receive a discount on Author Processing Charges (APC). In addition to this, the Library will pay half of the APC from the remaining Open Access funds. In the end, Wageningen authors pay less than half of the APC. However, to receive these funds, the first author or the corresponding author must be affiliated with Wageningen UR.

Another development in Open Access is that authors of articles in the journals of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) can use vouchers to make publications Open Access. The vouchers are managed by the Library and are a benefit of the Library’s subscription package with RSC.
