PCC PhD Ralph van Zwieten is awarded Best Research paper of the Year award 2025
Friday March 7th 2025, PCC PhD student Ralph van Zwieten was awarded the Best Research Paper of the Year award for his paper “Mimicking natural deterrent strategies in plants using adhesive spheres”.
In this paper Ralph and co-authors show the concept of a physical alternative to chemical pesticides. By oxidising vegetable oils and subsequent milling, adhesive particles are produced that immobilize pests upon contact. This physical method of trapping pests could mean a worldwide revolution in crop protection that is not dependent on chemicals.
