In December 2018, Wageningen Academy and Sino-Dutch Dairy Development Center (SDDDC) jointly organized an in-depth training course for dairy chain stakeholders in China, under topic of “Farm Economy and Farm Management”. The training programme consists of both lectures and case practices, as well as intensive interactions between lecturers and attendants.

By using of workshop case under China context, all the attendants are divided into small groups to translate theory into practice, work out their own findings, motivations as well as decisions, then share with other groups. Case practice worked quite well.

Another lecturer of this program is Kees de Koning, Director of Dairy Campus WUR. He shared with the attendants about future developments in dairy farming, in which improving efficiency by closing the cycle would be the prior choice for farms, and innovation in sensor technology, dairy housing, etc. would also make great contribution to this sector. Last but not least, cooperation among shareholders is necessary for a successful and sustainable dairy chain.

Henk Hogeveen from Wageningen Economic Research talked about how to combine data to evaluate the effects of dairy cattle diseases, by using the case of Bovine Viral Diarrhea.

SDDDC is a joint force of WUR, China Agriculture University and Royal FrieslandCampina, aims to contribute to improving production, quality and safety throughout the Chinese dairy sector. Training course of such kind is one of their major activities as well.
