At the 78th International Institute of Sugar Beet Research (IIRB) Congress, Sharella Schop presented her poster on “Exploring Mature Plant Resistance in sugar beet to avoid Virus Yellows infection in the field”. This research is part of her PhD project, which is a collaboration between Wur, Cosun, SESVanderHave, BBRO and IRS. The aim of her research is to understand the underlying mechanism of Mature Plant Resistance in sugar beet against aphids and to investigate whether the trait would be useful in breeding practices and to implement it in Integrated Pest Managements Strategies. Her poster describes the first results obtained in her PhD, regarding the toxicity effects on aphids and genotypic variability for the trait.
