The Annual Introduction Days: a retrospective
Under the motto "Ignite," the 2200 participants (95% of the new students) in the General Introduction Days (AID) experienced an explosive start to their studies at Wageningen University & Research and Aeres University of Applied Sciences over the past six days. A retrospective.
From Friday, August 18 to Wednesday, August 23, the brand new students accompanied by their AID 'parents' (200 mentors) went through an intensive and varied program; partly consisting of golden oldies like the Campus Games, the PubNight, a Singalong, the Pub Crawl, the Crazy88 and the field day at sports center De Bongerd and partly new like the Campus Day.
On Monday, participants were shown around campus with tours, talks and workshops in various buildings on campus. Tuesday it was time for more serious business: a study day on campus concluded with a BBQ (with vega and sustainable and local meat on the grill, we read in Resource) and a film screening in the Torck Park. On Wednesday afternoon, associations and Resource presented themselves at the information market in the Arboretum. The Festival on the campus' center grounds was the festive finale Wednesday evening.

One of the workshops on Monday 21 was the one on waste-free cooking. We annually throw away about 33 kg of food per person in the Netherlands. That is why students could attend a workshop at the General Introduction Days (AID) on 21 August where they were given useful tips on how to cook delicious and waste-free food. Sanne Stroosnijder, program manager Food Loss and Waste Management, was interviewed by Editie NL. Resource also reports on the waste-free cooking workshop.
Camping at the Campus Campsite
During the AID, newspaper The Gelderlander took a look at the temporary campsite on the west side on campus behind Axis, where about 200 campers had pitched their tents. There they encountered Tariq Wazir (18) from The Hague who is going to study Nutrition and Health. The campus camping is a godsend for Wazir. He has sight of a room in October.
Wazir: "When the introduction started on Friday, I didn't have all my stuff here yet. Then I traveled up and down. Cost two hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. So very nice that this campground exists." The Hague native likes the camping. "Only in the morning it is very hot in the tent. Other than that, it's quiet here. No noise, despite the people who come back drunk. They go straight into their tents. Wazir likes it fine in Wageningen so far. "A nice, very green city with a beautiful campus. And it's very cozy." Resource's student editor also visited campus camping.
Serious matters were adressed at the AID also, of course. The AID's festival site featured an escape room on the theme of social insecurity, with games about physical distance and how to keep an eye on each other. RTL News took a look and spoke to students about unwanted behaviour, a topic that is high on the agenda at many universities this year.
