Time to get up: standing desks in the Library

As everybody knows, a varied work posture enhances your focus and productivity. With this in mind, the Student Council took the initiative to place new ergonomic furniture in the Library. In Forum Library you now can find four height adjustable desks that allow you to work either sitting or standing.

Especially during longer study sessions, you can benefit from being able to stand at your desk. It's worth a try, and you may even find that you like standing while you work!

We hope to improve our student's work experience with these new desks. There’s now a variety of ergonomic study places to choose from in the Library, which we hope will have a positive impact on the well-being of our visitors.

The sit-to-stand desks, which are located on the 2nd floor in the Library, don’t need to be booked in advance. The Library would like to know if these sit-to-stand desks are a good addition. When you use the desks, you will be asked to fill in a short questionnaire (available on top of the desks). This will help to evaluate the new furniture in two months.

Other ergonomic study places

In addition to the new sit-to-stand desks, Forum Library offers special desks for short and tall people. There are also height-adjustable default desks and a large standing table suitable for large materials such as atlases or maps, all on the 3rd floor. Furthermore, all the office chairs in the Library are height adjustable. And if you really want something different you can even choose to sit on a skippy ball. Last but not least, several study places are equipped with a monitor to use with your laptop and there are single keyboards and computer mouses in case you forgot yours.

WUR discount on CANS/RSI articles

Using your own laptop is standard for both classwork and self-study at WUR. Working properly with your laptop and monitor will prevent arm, neck, and shoulder issues. By default, a laptop is not suited for studying for more than two consecutive hours. You can prevent physical complaints by using a CANS/RSI set (laptop stand, keyboard and mouse). You can order CANS/RSI articles at a discount in the WUR LaptopShop. For more information, please see Studying Anytime Anyplace laptop, software and service - WUR.
