Towards mangrove-shrimp integrated aquaculture?

Shrimp aquaculture is widely seen as a major factor in the degradation of coastal mangrove ecosystems in Southeast Asia. If mangroves are lost the ecosystems of which they are an integral part become less resilient. But can we have our mangroves and eat our shrimp too?

This is exactly what the Wageningen University funded RESCOPAR programme examined over the last decade, and the focus for Olivier Joffre and colleagues in their recent paper in Ocean and Coastal Management.
