Wageningen University & Research is contributing to international research with the objective of revealing underlying factors that contribute to successful relationships between us and our cat or dog.

Caring for an animal is known to come with benefits, such as of improved health and countering feelings of loneliness. Much can be learned however on what exactly determines a beneficial, successful relationship. For when a relationship is less positive, these health and social benefits may not be achieved in full. Also, the animal is at risk, for instance at risk for shelter relinquishment. The present study tests for several underlying factors and does so worldwide as cultural influences can be foreseen. Among the participating countries are Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Iran, Japan, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States. The study group is presently looking for participants to the research and if you care for a cat or dog, you are invited to participate!
