Alexandra is a PhD Candidate in the Biomanufacturing & Digital Twins research group within the Bioprocess Department (BPE) of WUR. She obtained her master's in cellular and molecular biotechnology in 2020, where she wrote her master's thesis in the Systems & Synthetic Biology (SSB) group and her internship thesis in the Systems & Synthetic Metabolism group of Dr. Bar-Even at the Max-Planck-Institute of molecular plant physiology in Potsdam-Golm, Germany.

In her PhD she will focus on the exploitation of Pseudomonas putida's diverse metabolism for the bioproduction of aromatic compounds, such as flavonoids, from valorizable biowaste (e.g. lignin, glycerol). Additionally, she will work on an interdisciplinary project for embedding the Safe-and-Sustainability-by-Design concept in bioeconomic workflows.
