Project Leader Proficiency Testing WEPAL

Dr. Célia Martins Bento is currently working as the project leader of WEPAL - Wageningen Evaluating Programs for Analytical Laboratories.

WEPAL organizes proficiency tests in the terrestrial environment (soil, plant, freshwater sediment, manure, and biomass).

WEPAL merged in 2011 with Quasimeme, organizer of proficiency testing in the Marine environment (sea- and ocean water, biota, shellfish and sediment).

Worldwide, about 900 laboratories are currently participating within WEPAL-Quasimeme.

Célia Bento has experience in (research) project management and coordination. Her current expertise is on the occurrence and fate of pesticides in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. She has done work on pesticides behavior in soil and their transport risk assessment to off-target environments, and on the occurrence, potential sources and ecological risk assessment of pesticides in coastal waters. She has also done work on analytical method development for the analysis of pesticides in water, soil and sediment.
