dr. DEG (Dieuwertje) Kok

Assistant professor Nutrition and Cancer

Dr. Dieuwertje Kok completed the program Biology and Medical Laboratory Research at the Saxion University of Applied Sciences in Enschede (2004), and subsequently received her MSc degree in Medical Biology from the University of Groningen (2006). In 2006, she started her PhD project under supervision of Prof. Ellen Kampman, Prof. Bart Kiemeney and Dr. Lydia Afman at Wageningen University. In 2013, she obtained her PhD on the role of nutritional and clinical factors in relation to prostate cancer risk and recurrence. The opportunity to work in the laboratory of Professor Mathers at Newcastle University, UK (2008) fuelled her interest in (cancer) epigenetics. Currently, Dieuwertje is working as an assistant professor on the integration of epigenetic and other complex molecular datasets in animal and human studies with a strong link to cancer research in clinical practice. Her passion for cancer research is characterized by a specific interest in colorectal and paediatric cancer, epigenetics, folate metabolism and cytotoxic cancer treatments.
