Furqan's interest lies in contributing to sustainable solutions in the fields of chemical engineering and biotechnology. He began his academic journey through a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and later worked as a process engineer in FMCG industry in Indonesia. Afterwards, he pursued a master's degree in Biotechnology at WUR. This academic diversification allowed him to merge his skills in engineering with a deeper understanding of biotechnology's potential for sustainable solutions. Afterwards, he continued working as Life Cycle Assessment Specialist at GreenCoLab for several algae-related projects in Faro, Portugal. Currently, Furqan works as PhD candidate at the ORL Chair Group within Wageningen University and Research. Here, he is actively involved in the ReBBloCS project "Designing sustainable waste conversion value chains using decision support models".

Furqan is particularly interested in process design and system optimization, where he utilizes his engineering knowledge to enhance efficiency and sustainability of the system. His commitment to the environment also extends to his expertise in life cycle assessment, ensuring that his work aligns with the principles of responsible resource management.
