ngrid is an Associate Professor at the Environmental Policy Group at Wageningen University. Ingrid’s research is based in the fields of environmental change, mobilities, and governance, and is specialised in the subject of environmental/climate change-related migration/mobility, focused on different regions around the world. She has been awarded a personal grant (VENI, NWO) to study environmental migration in the digital age (ended June 2021, and focussed on Bangladesh and Kenya), and a Vidi grant that examines climate change-related mobility in the borderlands (start 2022), which include 3 PhD projects, and will study the Bengal, West African and Pacific borderlands. In addition she supervises several other PhD and master thesis projects, concentrating on climate and environmental mobilities in other regions, such as the Netherlands, the Caribbean, and Chile.

Ingrid works on the subject of climate change and human mobility since 2007, studied from the angles of political science, human geography, and sociology, and has over 30 publications on this topic. She holds a PhD in International Relations, obtained at the University of Kent (UK) in February 2014, on the securitisation of climate migration, funded by the UK Economic Social Research Council. Ingrid has been a visiting fellow with the United Nations University – Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, Tokyo (2014); the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing (2016/17); and with the Migration Policy Centre at the European University Institute, Florence(2020) with the Migration Policy Centre (EUI, Florance) in 2021. She is furthermore a research fellow with the Earth System Governance Network and the Anthropocene Mobilities network; member of the scientific steering committee of the PERN network; member of the Management Committee of the EU COST ACTION on climate change and migration and on Drylands facing change (both actions ended); and serves as an expert on climate mobility for the EU, the Dutch Government, the UN and for several NGOs. She also co-chaired the international conference on ‘Disclosing Sustainability’ held at Wageningen University (June 2016), for which she led the theme on ‘citizens and transparency’, and chaired a symposium on the nexus between environmental change and mobilities in June 2019 at Wageningen University.
