Within the ReGeNL program, my research focuses on the role of carbon cycling in soil multifunctionality under regenerative farming systems. To achieve this, we will sample a diverse range of farming systems across various soil types in the Netherlands. My project is closely connected to other PhD research within ReGeNL, which examines microbial communities, nutrient dynamics, and soil fauna contributions to soil multifunctionality.
Regenerative farming systems are characterized by the integration of multiple practices, such as maximizing winter cover cropping, applying organic fertilizers, and incorporating crop residues. My objective is to investigate how soil organisms mediate the decomposition of these organic inputs and how this process varies across different soil types in the Netherlands. Furthermore, I would like to link this to other processes in soil such as aggregation and nutrient dynamics.
