My PhD project focuses on the impact of human interventions on the tidal hydrodynamics of estuaries and tidal rivers, with a special interest in the intertidal zone. My research consists of a combination of (archival) data analysis and numerical modelling. I study estuaries and tidal rivers around the globe, but am especially interested in the Scheldt. This well- monitored and documented system provides the ideal case study to tidal changes due to anthropogenic disturbances. My research provides valuable insights in how to manage our estuaries, in the face of a changing climate.
