Marjolein Bulbaai obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nutrition and Health from Wageningen University (the Netherlands). During her Master’s, she specialized in nutritional and public health epidemiology. While performing her master thesis, Marjolein investigated the association between adiposity and the risk of colorectal neoplasms in persons with Lynch Syndrome utilising the data of the GEOLynch study. Afterwards, she did a research internship at the World Cancer Research Fund (the Netherlands).

Conducting research on the topic of Lynch Syndrome fascinates her. Therefore, Marjolein is currently doing a PhD at Wageningen University where she investigates the role of vitamin D in the development of colorectal neoplasms in persons with Lynch Syndrome. Marjolein will examine this role by investigating different forms of vitamin D such as measured concentrations, genetically predicted concentrations, and dietary and supplemental intake. Furthermore, Marjolein will evaluate whether vitamin D plays a role in the association between overweight as well as smoking in relation to colorectal neoplasm risk in these persons.  For this project, Marjolein will use already available data from 2,785 persons with Lynch Syndrome, who participate in the GEOLynch study and two international studies namely Colon Cancer Family Registry Cohort and the Ohio Colorectal Cancer Prevention Initiative.
