The Political Economy of Energy Subsidies Policy for a Just Energy Transition in Indonesia
Indonesia's 2060 Net Zero Emissions goal requires an energy transition. Costs and benefits of the energy transition will likely be heterogeneous across regions, households and industries. Hence, it is essential to address potential inequalities due to the energy transition. This research will evaluate Indonesia's energy subsidy program and recommend policy modifications to satisfy the country's just energy transition objectives. Analyses of regional energy inequality, employment vulnerability and gender-related issues in energy policies will be conducted using historical data to assess policies adopted in the past. Policy alternatives that could support a just energy transition will be analysed using simulations.
