I am a lecturer at the Soil Biology Group of Wageningen University & Research. In my teaching I focus on the fascinating and complex fundament of our planet: the soil. How do soil physical processes, chemical processes and biological processes interact to make a soil do what it does? I am especially interested in the role of soil organic matter and soil life in generating more resilient soils within a resilient future-proof farming system. I am strongly motivated by the frequent interactions with practice, for example field excursions and on-farm case studies, during our teaching.
Within my research I extend this line. I currently focus on the role of soil biology in the transition from our farming system to a regenerative farming system. Regenerative agriculture is a way of farming that combines food production with nature restoration, soil improvement and the restoration of soil life.
