Promovendus, Externe medewerkerHi, I'm Qimeng Wang from Hebei, China. I earned my BSc and MSc degrees in Food Science and Engineering from China Agricultural University (CAU) between 2015 and 2022. In November 2022, I began my PhD in PCC at Wageningen University & Research, where I am working on my "whitener projects". Our goal is to develop sustainable whiteners for food products, wall paints, and other applications as potential replacements for TiO2.
As detailed in my "Project" column, my research primarily focuses on two sustainable whitener projects:

Clean Label, Plant Protein-Based Food-Grade Whiteners
In this project, we aim to create micro- or submicron air bubbles by freeze-drying oil-in-water Pickering emulsions. We use microscopy, a density meter, and a colorimeter to characterize these microbubbles and identify optimal formulations with good stability. -
Biobased Photonic Whiteners
Here, we utilize biobased materials to produce porous microparticles. The heterogeneous structure of these particles enables strong light scattering—an essential property of effective whiteners.
