Prioritizing socio-cultural values in the transition towards sustainable agriculture
In addressing sustainability challenges in the Dutch agricultural sector, science and policy has primarily focused on environmental challenges including greenhouse gas emissions, nutrient losses, biodiversity and water. With a shift in policy focus towards area-based approaches to address region-specific challenges, the need to unravel socio-cultural values that underlie science, policy and farming practices is key. This research hypothesizes that a greater priority needs to be given to these socio-cultural values to facilitate the transition towards sustainable agriculture.
