Assistant Professor

Welcome to my page.
My name is Shahab. I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Smart Grids in Urban Energy and Water Systems in the Environmental Technology group at Wageningen University & Research. I am a senior member of IEEE, and also a member of INFORMS and the Global Observatory on Peer-to-Peer (GO-P2P) community.

I received my B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran in 2008, my M.Sc. from Chalmers University of Technology in 2010, and my Ph.D. from Delft University of Technology in 2015. Between 2015 and 2017, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology. From February 2017 to March 2020, I worked as a Research Scientist at the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) and EnergyVille in Belgium. I have contributed to several European H2020 projects (e.g., Magnitude, FHP, Coordinate), alongside fundamental research initiatives.

My research focuses on the application of sequential decision-making under uncertainty in the context of water and energy infrastructure and technology modeling and optimization. To that end, we use tools from convex optimization, combinatorial optimization, and machine learning, particularly deep learning and reinforcement learning.

I collaborate closely with the City of Amsterdam, AMS Institute, water companies, and water boards, as well as academic partners including HZ University of Applied Sciences in Vlissingen, Eindhoven University of Technology, and Utrecht University.

Please feel free to reach out.
