HT (Thomas) Slijper MSc
OnderzoekerThomas Slijper is a postdoc at the Business Economics group at Wageningen University & Reserach. His research focuses on the interplay between risk, resilience, and sustainable agricultural practices. He is currently involved in three projects. First, he is an active member of the 4TURE community DESIRE (Designing Systems for Informed Resilience Engineering; https://www.4tu.nl/resilience/DeSIRE/about-desire/). This project aims to investigate the optimal allocation of public and private goods to secure a resilient Dutch agricultural sector. Second, Thomas is involved in the Smart-in-Ag project (https://smart-in-ag.com/), which studies the adoption of sustainable smart farming practices in Indonesia. Finally, he contributes to the Horizon 2020 project SIMBA (Sustainable Innovation of Microbiome Applications in Food System, https://simbaproject.eu/). He studies how the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices (SAPs) can be boosted in Europe by studying both the financial feasibility of SAPs and behavioural drivers of adopting SAPs.
Thomas obtained a PhD in Business Economics at Wageningen University and Research. He studied the resilience of European farms based on qualitative and quantitative methods. He studied how European farmers deal with several interrelated risks and under which conditions risk management and social capital have the potential to contribute to farm resilience and help farmers to obtain a viable farm income. He was involved in the Horizon 2020-project SURE-Farm (https://www.surefarmproject.eu/).
