Professional Skills in English - Summer course
This course gives you the skills and practice required to perform successfully in an English-speaking professional environment.
Target group
This course is primarily aimed at professionals currently working in an English-speaking environment, who would like to improve their English language business communication skills in the key areas of emailing, participating in meetings, presenting, negotiating and socialising with colleagues and international visitors. It is also suitable for graduating students about to enter the business workplace and who are looking to give themselves an edge in the job market.

Course content
This course is designed to give you the skills and practice required to perform successfully in an English-speaking professional environment. Professional Skills in English will help you feel more comfortable when interacting with international colleagues and provide the skills required to participate confidently in the English language in the business and academic world. This course is an ideal accompaniment to the Advanced Speaking Skills courses.
Elements included in the course are reinforced by peer-assessed, practical sessions allowing students to practice the taught skills as well as receive advice and tips on how their personal performance can be improved.
Planning
The class meets 3 times per week for 2 weeks. Each session is 3 hours. You should expect to do 12 hours of homework each week.

The teacher will post additional course material on BlackBoard. Participants should have access to a computer and the internet. Tablets and laptops are also useful for in class. Free Wi-Fi is available in class.
Certification
If you are taking the course as part of Wageningen University & Research Language Policy, your skills will be tested in class. If you pass the course, you will receive a Wageningen in’to Languages certificate. If you do not pass, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance, providing you have attended enough classes.

Prior to registration: placement test
New course participants are obliged to take the free Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) to ensure that they are placed in the right course. Basic English requires an OOPT score of at least 40. Please note: registration cannot be confirmed without a placement test result. Arrange an OOPT appointment through our online calendar.
