Team Research IT: partner in development and management of IT services for research
Research IT is the first point of contact for researchers for IT infrastructure issues. Together with the researcher, we look for the question behind the question and a suitable solution.
Over the years, IT services within WUR have evolved. Whereas we used to be more organised around standard IT services, we now also pay a lot of attention to specific questions from researchers. A team of specialists operating in the grey area between IT and research is ready to help. This ranges from maintenance issues and software development to data archiving and High Performance Computing. We also warmly welcome innovative issues for which no specific service is yet available. Important to mention: our specialists focus on reducing IT complexity, so that you as a researcher can fully focus on your research. 'You do research, we do IT!'
Our way of working
In principle, any issue with an IT component from research can come to us.
On the basis of an intake (free of charge), we start working to see how IT can provide a solution. We take care of the short line, so that the right IT specialists are directly at the table. Together with the researcher, we determine what a suitable solution might be. The researcher is at the heart of Research IT.

Intake
Any collaboration always starts with a no-obligation intake. In it, the current set-up (if any) is mapped out and it is determined what you need. In some cases, standard solutions are available and you will be helped immediately. For more complex issues, we look for the right solution direction together. This may lead to a Proof of Concept (POC) proposal based on a predetermined price (see phase 1).
Note: After the intake, there is always a “Go-No Go” moment, where you have the flexibility to opt for further cooperation.
Phase 1: Proof Of Concept (POC)
Once all requirements are gathered and the real question is known, we start planning and building the solution. This is an iterative process and requires close involvement of the researcher. We conclude this phase by walking past the requirements/requirements again to test whether they have been achieved. This allows the researcher to accept the solution. It can then be decided to put the offered solution into production (phase 2).
Phase 2: Production & Go Live
We implement and test the solution in production.
Together, we perform the necessary actions (such as migrating data) to get the solution up and running. At this point, you can also choose to have Research IT manage the solution (phase 3).
Phase 3: Support & Maintenance
Research IT takes care of hosting and future developments so you can focus on your research. We monitor and guard your environment according to WUR guidelines and principles.
You choose the right level of support based on your chosen level of care. We aim for a partnership with periodic service evaluations.
