Balanced approach for agro-food systems
Modelling tools are an important source of information to policy-makers. When stakeholders are part of the interactive process in generating model outcomes, model development becomes demand-driven, models gain trust and are likely to be used and re-used. When models are shared in a wider community, potential solutions to business problems can easier be found and at the same time the peer reviewing the models doesn’t have to wait for journal publications.
Abstract
There are various ways to facilitate the interactive model development and use. In the agro-food domain a Living Lab approach has been developed to represent a user-centric, open innovation approach for complex solutions in multiple and evolving life contexts. The ways to incorporate the knowledge exchange on modelling outcomes are yet to be proposed and implemented.
This study explores gaps in our knowledge on the role and place of new information technologies in exploring the knowledge generated by mathematical models in the agro-food domain. This study will provide research priorities on the use of modern IT technologies in (a) making the development of modelling tools more participatory, (b) the use of modelling tools more efficient and (c) advancing on peer review mechanisms for models.
