Cultivation above the ground: cauliflower

Cauliflower and broccoli have a low N-utilization index. Only 57% and 51% of the total amount of the available nitrogen is actually assimilated by the crop.

In addition, crop residues contain large quantities of nitrogen, so that it is not possible to meet the directive of 50 ml / l nitrate in groundwater.

To meet this standard in the future, other cropping systems are needed, and also a reduction in the use of pesticides.

The aim of this project is to present the Dutch cauliflower and broccoli growers in 2013 a (prototype) production system which reduces the leaching of nitrogen and phosphate with more than 70%.
