Can bacteriophages be used for the decontamination of food products? That is the main topic of this research project. To find out, two experiments will be carried out.
First, a cocktail of bacteriophages is produced and applied to the drinkingwater of broilers. This will happen just before slaughter and is meant to decontaminate the resulting meat product.
Second, combinations of phagelysins and cellwall permeabilizing agents will be studied to see if they are able to lyse gram-egative foodpathogens, in particular certain E. coli strains.
