Elephant grass near Schiphol airport

The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation targets to achieve a CO2 reduction of 30% by 2030 and a renewable energy consumption of 20% of the total energy consumption by 2020. Miscanthus, also called elephant grass, can contribute to these goals because it appears to have very good prospects for the production of biofuels and bioplastics.

The goal of this project is twofold. By scaling up the cultivation of elephant grass a chain of materials and energy can be developed. In addition, the crop is grown in the proximity of Schiphol Airport, making the landscape unattractive to birds (this crop does not attract them) and improves the flight safety.
