Habeat - Learn children to eat fruit and vegetables

Despite the health benefits, children’s vegetable consumption is below the recommended intake across Europe. In the Netherlands (RIVM study), the majority of young children consume only 30-50% of the daily recommended amount of vegetables.

Several studies have shown that it is difficult to change eating behaviors of children, adolescents and in particular adults. In addition, food preferences and eating habits early in life strongly influence eating behaviour at later age. Different learning mechanisms play a role, but it is not yet known which mechanisms work best at what age and little is known about the long term effects of these learning strategies.

The aim of this project is to determine which factors contribute to healthy eating habits in young children. This can contribute to a healthy eating pattern and adequate consumption of fruit and vegetables at a later age, which is beneficial for health.
