Perception of crowdedness in green areas

The first objective of this project is to get insight in the extent to which the declining satisfaction of visitors of National forests are the result of increasing crowdedness and/or reduced tolerance of crowdedness, for example because of the greater need to unwind.

Research could not answer this because of an unusable set of data. A second objective was to get more insight in the experience of crowdedness of the visitors during a walk in a green or natural environment. It appeared that people with the motive to unwind experienced more irritation to the crowdedness than people who took a walk because of sociability. Guidelines to prevent this annoyance are to reduce the number of people present, reducing the visibility/audibility of others and by reducing the disruptiveness of noticeably present others.
