Seeing like a company: corporate sustainability commitments in the context of complex palm oil value chain governance (Ahmad Dermawan)

Ahmad Dermawan addresses the implications of zero deforestation commitment of palm oil companies in Indonesia on the palm oil value chain. The research will analyse how companies translate zero deforestation commitments into their operations. The research will develop conceptualization of zero deforestation commitment within the sustainable value chain framework. Empirical research will analyse strategies to align zero deforestation commitments with legal issues related to their oil palm concessions; and analyse the measures where companies ensure that raw material supply from partnership with smallholders remain adequate for the continuous operation of the palm oil companies. The research will formulate options for national and subnational government policies to support zero deforestation commitments.
