Project
Supporting sustainable agriculture
The proposals for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reveal that the European Commission want to increase environmental performance of the CAP by adding direct payments to farmers in order to support EU climate policy and environmental objectives.
The goal of this project is to develop a selection and ranking system to identify potential objectives.
An inventory of measures has shown that current Dutch agriculture already has 270 measures which aim to make agricultural practices to be more friendly to the environment, nature and animals. Not all of these measures will be suitable for the scheme of direct payments. The selection and ranking system can be of help to make the multitude of measures manageable. It is also important to describe the boundary conditions under which a measure is effective and for what kind of business the measure is applicable.
