Boundary Crossing @ WUR
Learning across different practices (e.g disciplines, cultures, academia-society) is key to studying and working in the life sciences. However, a diverse group of students from different practices cannot be expected to automatically learn with and from one another and work across the differences that exist between them. Explicitly supporting and challenging students to make use of their differences in a positive way, is needed to co-create new ideas as well as gain a better understanding of themselves and their own perspectives.
The main goal of the BC@WUR project (2018 and beyond) is to support the facilitation of boundary crossing competence development at Wageningen University: how can students be facilitated to recognise, seek, appreciate, and utilise boundaries?
A BC core team, led by the dean of education and representing various disciplines and cultures at WUR, supports the development and implementation of educational materials at levels of curricula, courses and learning activities. Moreover, the team connects boundary crossing to similar initiatives and concepts used to work across practices.
One of the continuous outputs of the project is the open and online toolbox with learning activities, assessments, examples and tools. Do you want to incorporate BC in your education? Feel free to explore, get inspired and use or adjust the tools to fit your course!
