CAS models for policy and decisions support

Agricultural entrepreneurs, and the food sector as a whole, innovate production systems under social pressure to increase quality, food safety, sustainability, animal welfare, etc.

They act under conditions of legal, economic, physical, and ecological constraints. For policy making, a good understanding of the effects of complex interactions between entrepreneurs and other stakeholders is crucial. Other stakeholders include supply chain partners, national and local authorities, veterinary and phytosanitary services, political parties, and public organizations (e.g., consumers, environment, animal welfare).

This project aims development and application of empirically grounded agent-based models in policy analysis and support in the domain of Wageningen UR. It focuses on decisions for policy making with respect to the sustainable production of safe and healthy food. Consequences of decisions in this field may be hard to predict due to the complex interactions of agricultural entrepreneurs with each other, with the environment, and with other stakeholders. Agentbased models taking these interactions into account may help to improve insight in potential consequences of alternative decisions.
