Clean compost: is compost free from pesticide residues?

Grow it Away produces compost from material provided by its members. After a few months, members receive their batch of compost for use in their garden or potted plants.

Since Grow it Away still needs all the material it collects to fuel the composting process, little control on the origin of the source material is possible. As a result, both organic as regular green waste material is used in the composting process. To investigate what happens in this process, this project is researching the pesticide residues in the start material and its dynamics during the composting process. The project also focusses on challenges encountered in current regulation, the use of earthworms in composting, and the perception of this topic by stakeholders.
