Collaboration with Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS)
Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security is one of the four cross-cutting Global integrating programs of CGIAR. The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) will address the increasing challenge of global warming and declining food security on agricultural practices, policies and measures through a strategic collaboration between CGIAR and WUR.
The Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) is led by the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), and is a collaboration among all 15 CGIAR research centers and coordinates with the other CGIAR research programs.
Climate Smart Agriculture
Climate Smart Agriculture is about the challenge of how to transition agricultural systems at a large scale to be transformed and reoriented to support food security under the new realities of climate change. Both CGIAR institute and WUR pay significant attention to climate smart agriculture through a variety of project differing from livestock to greenhouse technology to biotechnology. Collaboration
Collaboration is the key, as there is no global blueprint for CSA. Tailor-made project are required to adjust to local circumstances, both physiological ad socio-economical.
Sharing knowledge and exchanging information among research institutes is an important part. The involvement of farmers, industry/business, governments and civil society is important to put the developed knowledge and innovation into practices and to share experiences to further improve the technologies. The collaboration between CCAFS and WUR will provide enhanced knowledge, to be shared with all parties involved and also with students at Wageningen University.
Knowledge will also be shared through the Global Coalition on Climate Smart Agriculture (GACSA).
