Cultivation of Seaweed

The cultivation of seaweed for the biobased economy as a source of protein or other substances raises the question how to use the marine environment sustainably and efficiently and what the positive or negative consequences are.

The goal of this project is to understand the key factors that positively or negatively may affect the environment in which seaweed is grown.

Commercial parties in the Biobased Economy who wishing to make use of the products from seaweed must know that the cultivation of seaweed can take place in an efficient and sustainable way. Results provide guidance for the further development of sustainable seaweed cultivation and offers clues for further research related to ecological monitoring of seaweed cultivation in the open sea.
