Project

Exploiting positive plant-soil feedbacks through understanding root traits and trade-offs.

Growing plants interact closely with soil organisms. Depending on plant characteristics, plants alter soil conditions and influence next plant productivity positively or negatively.

This project examines which root characteristics can predict what the legacy of plants will be. In lab-, greenhouse – and field experiments direct interactions between plant and soil organisms are studied, as is the decomposition process. By comparing crops and wild plants we study how plant legacies can benefit sustainable agriculture.
