Scale issues when farmers influence the water system
Regional long-term water management plans increasingly depend on investments by local water users such as farmers. When water user investments are expected to increase regional water availability, a good understanding of why, how and when investment decisions are made is essential.
Research Challenges
From a bio-physical perspective, challenges of scaling up from local to regional levels when assessing the regional feasibility of local water storages have so far prevented us from understanding the real potential that local water storages can offer. My research focusses on issues of scale with the four research questions displayed in the conceptual framework.
